Holiday Decorating Secret Weapons-Floral Fillers

Growing up I had no idea why Mom had so many bins of wreaths, pinecones and garland.  That's the boring stuff.  Bring on the Christmas villages and train set!  My little cousin Wyley jokes about Auntie Carla buying Craft Warehouse out of all of their autumn leaves.  What is going on with these ladies and their floral obsessions?  Genius, is what is going on.

Every time I decorate I throw everything up and then rearrange everything the next morning because it just doesn't look right to me.

Then in October when Auntie Carla took me to Craft Warehouses Moonlight Madness sale it hit me like a bolt of lighting at how much of a dumb dumb I had been with the decorating.  Florals are the jewelry to the fancy dress you wear.  Without them your outfit would not be complete.

A pinecone here and a swag of garland there pulls it all together.

Pinecone squirrel without the red berries is just another showgirl without her peacock tail feathers!

Mix in some fresh stuff from the yard for some live greenery.

Pile the pinecones up in items laying around the house like colanders, bowls, buckets and pails.

So to Mom and Auntie Carla thank you for frequenting the floral section at the craft store and passing down that decorating knowledge.  It just took me awhile to get there.  Plus Santa is really going to love all the decorations when he visits our house for the first time this year.
